A Low-Cost Solution to Remote Employee Eligibility Verification

Atualizado: 29 de jun. de 2023

computer, notebook, coffee, home office

More and more businesses are hiring employees to work remotely. Technological advances like VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) allow remote employees to conduct business as if they were working in the office. The Coronavirus pandemic of 2020 caused a rapid growth of webinars and face to face meetings over apps like Zoom.

What hasn't changed, is the responsibilities of employers to verify that their employees are eligible to work in the United States. USCIS requires that this verification must be done in person, face to face. This causes a dilemma for employers who hire employees who work a substantial distance from the employee. How to comply with the government requirements without paying an arm and a leg in employee travel fees?

Employers have the option of hiring a local representative to verify the new employee's documents on their behalf. This can be done at a fraction of the cost of the travel expenses that could be incurred. A local mobile Notary Public is experienced at reviewing documents and verifying identification.

According to USCIS, "employers are to use Form I-9 to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States. All U.S. employers must properly complete Form I-9 for each individual they hire for employment in the United States. This includes citizens and noncitizens. Both employees and employers (or authorized representatives of the employer) must complete the form".

SCG Law & Language can be your representative to verify the eligibility of your newly hired employee in the Greater Orlando Area.
